I always believed that Google’s keyword tool gave highly accurate results. I mean, they wouldn’t be telling fibs about their data, would they? Well, it turns out the figures aren’t always right.

The keyword data you see will be out of date and wrong. But it will have been spot on at some time. The answer to this particular enigma came to me almost accidentally.

I homed in on a key phrase with roughly 5000 competing websites. I was pretty sure I could get a good result with that keyword. I started banging articles out left right and centre. Hundreds in fact.

Soon after I noticed Google telling me there was about 9000 competing pages now. My heart sank, I thought my task was gonna be twice as hard now. As it happens most of these extra results were my articles on these different sites.

What I’m saying is that I would have left it alone had I saw over 9000 competing sites. Turns out I was competing mostly against myself as my article was the cause of these sites ranking. Not a bad situation to be in if you ask me.

Anyway, I decided to give a keyword research service a try as I couldn’t count on getting lucky every time. Hopefully I could get some golden keywords delivered to my inbox every day. I calculated the cost of these services and concluded that they were value for money.
