I am not only looking for Free ways to market my website, but ways that really work in sending traffic please…not much money starting out!
1. Write and submit articles . This will create traffic for years to come. Write quality unique articles, not articles that provide no substance for readers.
2. Submit ads to a high pagerank and high traffic Classified ad site such as USFreeads.
3. View related products on Amazon.com. You can try and take some customers from your competitors here by providing your own url if the product is similar.
4. Review websites in your niche on Alexa to try to take some of their traffic by including a reference back to your site.
5. Comment on other related blogs, but do not spam.
6. If you purchase a product that you actually like, then leave a testimonial. Leave your url in your testimonial and you should receive some traffic.
7. Whenever you send an email to someone, include your website url as a signature.
8. Keep updating content on your websites/blogs… try at least once per week, if not twice.
9. Tag blog posts at social bookmarking sites. Sign up to Onlywire.
10. Add pictures to your blog with appropriate keywords.
I would suggest social networks and blogs. Most of them are completely free and you can put in Keywords in blogs so that they will show up in optimized search engines, such as google.
I’m not sure what your target audience is or what type of site you are marketing, but you can always search for the ideal users on most websites and send out mass communication, equipped with your link – for FREE!
GOOD LUCK

I work in marketing/production for an interactive website.
Building a popular website is a pretty tough objective, and I recommend approaching the problem from lots of different angles.
Many people may suggest advertising, but I think advertising is only normally a good idea if you are selling something. If you are providing free content, then there are better ways to go.
Do a search for the various web directories and submit your site for inclusion in them. http://www.dmoz.org is a good place to start as is http://dir.yahoo.com/ If you don’t get accepted, improve your website and try submitting again later.
Submit your website to all the major search engines so that they can begin indexing it. Google’s address is: http://www.google.co.uk/addurl/?continue=/addurl You’ll also want to add your site to Yahoo, Ask and MSN/LIVE and the other search engines should pick up your site when they crawl the net.
There are two other key parts to getting high traffic. The first is getting noticed, and for this you need to have lots of inbound links so that your page rank with the search engines is higher.
To accomplish this to start with you could offer link exchanges with other sites, use your various web accounts to advertise your site – and if you post in forums, add your site to your signature, especially if it is relevant to the forum’s topic. If sites offer comment boxes to stories which are relevant to your site, make a response that includes your website. Also consider answering questions on Yahoo answers with links to your site when it is appropriate. However a word of warning. Don’t spam or shamelessly self promote because this annoys people.
The second part is creating good content. People searching on the net are hungry for good stuff and they are pretty good at spotting it. If your website has valuable information/content it will organically rise in popularity as more people link to it and recommend it.
Also update often. To attract repeat visitors consider offering a newsletter or web feed.
Finally there are numerous web resources on this topic if you want some more ideas, so do some web searches for inspiration. A reasonable starting point is Pavlina’s article: http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2006/01/how-to-build-a-high-traffic-web-site-or-blog/ and if you are running a blog: http://www.problogger.net/
Good luck.

I could explain this to you but I’d rather give you the link so you can see it for yourself. It is totally free and will get you a lot of traffic to your website. I have used it myself so I’m confident in it. Try it out and I really hope it helps you as much as it helped me. =)

@ Jeshu: RealTrafficSource has a bounce rate of 97% with the majority of your visitors coming from Russia, China and India. Oystein Kjorsvik runs this scam operation – yes, he gives the hits he promises but it’s pointless unless you just like to see your hit counter keep moving.
I have bought traffic from Realtrafficsource.com and this was a good investment for me. Bought 100k visitors and i got several conversions and clicks on my adsense. Good investment.
@ Rick: what’s your site and can we see the stats. NO ONE, not ONE SINGLE PERSON has ever had a good thing to say about RealTrafficSource … and most assuredly NO ONE has ever posted positive results. You are posting on other sites about this Oystein Kjorsvik because you became his affiliate and now scam people like he does. So don’t try to pass on bad information to people who are trying to make an honest living. Email me and I will give proof that YOU and Oystein are scammers.
